Fairy Martin adding mud to its nest, Brisbane Australia.   //   Fairy Martin - Hirundinidae: Petrochelidon (Hirundo) ariel. Length to 12cm, wingspan to NNcm, weight to 11g. Found throughout Australian mainland, except for the most arid areas, absent from Tasmania. Builds bottle-shaped mud nests in colonies in sheltered places:  natural - tree hollows, shallow caves, rock overhangs; or man-made - bridges, culverts, eaves, etc. Nomadic, breeding mainly in spring, though opportunistic following rain inland and increased food supplies.
