Returning from a day in their gardens, these Manus islanders use a home-made dugout to carry their produce to Rei Village on Lou Island, 15km south-east of Manus mainland. The canoe is made from a tree harvested on Lou Island, using an axe for the coarse work, and an adze for the shaping and smoothing.
